Current
and former Branch members celebrate the Branch 25th anniversary
On
Monday 3 July, 2006, members and former members gathered for a
get-together to celebrate 25 years of the Renfrewshire Branch
of CAMRA. The celebratory night was held in Coanes, High Street,
Johnstone, where ‘probably’ the first Branch meeting took place
in the summer of 1981. Members were able to celebrate with Kelburn
Brewery’s Red Smiddy beer at only a £1 a pint!
The
founder of the Branch, Derek Moore gave some background to how
the Branch was established as at the time there was only two outlets
for real ale in Renfrewshire and rather than join the Glasgow
& West of Scotland Branch of CAMRA, it was felt better and
more effective campaigning could be achieved by having a dedicated
Branch in Renfrewshire. Bob Wallace, who is regarded as the force
behind the 1st Paisley Real Ale Festival, also gave an insight
to the early days of the Branch. Bob now lives near Kilmarnock
and is a member of the Ayrshire Branch of CAMRA.
